Atheeb - From Racetrack to Championships
When Atheeb - affectionately known as Theebs - retired from racing in July 2022 at just five years old, we knew he had a bright future ahead of him. After leaving the track, racing with Michael Blake Racing (Sharon’s Husband), he headed straight to his new home with Bryoni, who welcomed him just one week into his new life beyond racing.
Like many young racehorses transitioning into a completely different world, Theebs needed time, patience, and consistency to adjust. His early days were full of big feelings and learning curves - and Bryoni never rushed him for a moment. She gave him exactly what every ex-racehorse deserves: time to settle, thoughtful rehabilitation, and quiet, steady encouragement.
Over the next year and a half, Bryoni supported him through every stage of his retraining and recovery. She worked diligently on his feet and digestive system, took the time to find the right saddle, rebuilt his strength and confidence through careful schooling, and even nursed him through a field injury. Every step required patience and trust - and she embraced the journey wholeheartedly.
And then the magic began to show.
In just the last six months [2024], Theebs has blossomed. The once-overwhelmed young horse who wasn’t sure about stepping onto a box or going over a pole is now confidently jumping full courses, flying across country, loading without hesitation, and thriving in new environments. The highlight so far? Qualifying for and placing in the top 10 at their very first stay-away Show Jumping Championships - a phenomenal achievement for any partnership, let alone one built so patiently from the ground up.
But beyond the successes in the ring, what makes Theebs truly special is his heart. He has become a kind, reliable partner for nervous riders and young horses on the yard, patiently waiting for others, leading calmly, and confidently showing the way. Whether he opens up for a gallop and then strolls home on the buckle, or enjoys a quiet canter through the woods, he does it all with joy and relaxation. He thrives on variety, loves his work, and embraces every new challenge with enthusiasm.
