Entrusting your horse to a new chapter is a significant decision, and at SB we are honoured to be chosen by so many trainers and private owners who want the best for their horses when they retire from racing. Our programme is designed to provide a safe, supportive and professional transition, giving each horse the time, care and understanding they need before finding the right long-term home.

We welcome Thoroughbreds from all backgrounds - from those who have just stepped out of training to older horses seeking a quieter life. Whether they need a simple let-down period or more structured rehabilitation, every horse receives patient handling, thoughtful routines and a gentle introduction to life beyond the racetrack. Our family-run yard offers calm surroundings, expert farriery, physiotherapy and chiropractic support, herd turnout where appropriate, and experienced daily care, ensuring each horse settles and thrives before moving on.

To help us cover the essential initial costs of assessment, care and settling-in, we ask private owners bringing horses to us for a £250 contribution upon arrival. This ensures we can provide each horse with the immediate attention and resources they need from day one.

Welfare, transparency and communication are central to our process. We stay in touch with every horse after they leave, and new owners are required to keep us updated, ensuring each horse remains accounted for and supported throughout their life. If circumstances ever change, we must be informed so we can continue to safeguard their future.
