Helping Horses Start Their Next Chapter

At SB Racehorse Rehoming, everything begins with kindness, patience and understanding. Transitioning from racing into a new way of life is a big shift for a Thoroughbred, and we believe they deserve time, thoughtful care and the right support to adjust confidently. Our role is to provide a calm environment where they can rest, reset and gradually rebuild - not only finding new skills, but also rediscovering comfort, balance and confidence in their bodies and minds.

Rehabilitation is a core focus. Many horses arrive needing time to unwind from the demands of training. Each horse receives an individual plan that may include physiotherapy, chiropractic treatments and tailored farriery - ensuring correct hoof balance and supporting long-term soundness. Good nutrition, careful management and structured turnout are key, with herd living encouraged where suitable so horses can relax socially, form friendships and restore natural behaviours.

Alongside this, gentle groundwork, hacking and basic schooling are introduced only when the horse is truly ready, allowing them to strengthen gradually and learn at a pace that builds confidence rather than pressure. Every horse is seen, respected and given the time they need to settle into themselves. Our aim is simple: to help each horse feel comfortable, secure and supported so they are genuinely prepared (in mind and body) for a positive and happy future beyond racing.

  • Rehabilitation

Horses are allowed essential downtime to unwind from racing, enjoy peaceful turnout, rebuild condition and settle into a gentle new routine.

  • Gentle Retraining

Once ready, horses begin light education - hacking, flatwork and simple new experiences - always in a calm, positive and confidence-building manner.

  • Physiotherapy

Regular physiotherapy helps release tension, rebuild healthy muscle patterns and support overall comfort and flexibility.

  • Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic treatments ensure correct alignment and free movement, supporting soundness and long-term wellbeing.

Who We Help

At SB, we’re proud to support both the people who rehome Thoroughbreds and the trainers, owners and private homes who trust us with their horses’ futures.

We welcome thoughtful, experienced homes that value patience, routine and gentle guidance. Our horses go on to a wide range of lives - from competition and riding club partnerships to hacking, pleasure riding or being a much-loved companion. We take time to understand each horse’s temperament and needs so we can match them with the right home and help them grow in confidence at their own pace.

We also work closely with trainers and private owners seeking peace of mind as their horses transition out of racing. Some horses arrive ready for their next chapter; others need rest or reassurance first. Every horse is met with kindness, patience and respect from the moment they arrive.

Our purpose is simple: to give every horse the chance to find the right person and the right future. By understanding each horse as an individual and building strong relationships with their new families, we help create safe, happy and thoughtful second chapters for Thoroughbreds who deserve nothing less.

What Makes SB Different

At SB Racehorse Rehoming, our approach is built on compassion, patience and a deep understanding of the Thoroughbred. We don’t rush horses or treat rehoming as quick turnover - each horse is given the time and care they need to settle, decompress and gain confidence beyond racing.

Horses are observed and understood as individuals from the moment they arrive at Staverton Farm. We watch how they relax, socialise and adapt to routine, building trust quietly and steadily so they feel safe and ready for their future.

As a family-run set-up, our horses receive consistent, hands-on care from the same team every day. They are not numbers - they are personalities. We prioritise honest communication, responsible matching and lifelong support.

Correct rehabilitation is central to what we do. Expert farriery, physiotherapy, chiropractic care and gentle retraining help each horse feel comfortable and prepared, while herd turnout and a peaceful environment support their mental wellbeing and allow them to simply be horses again.

Our SB Updates Community

When a horse leaves SB, they don’t lose our support. Every horse rehomed through us remains part of the SB family, and we love staying connected as they grow into their new lives.

Our SB Racehorse Rehoming Updates page on Facebook is a dedicated space for our wonderful new owners to share photos, progress updates and stories about their horses. It’s a positive, friendly and supportive community where people celebrate milestones, ask questions, swap tips and cheer each other on. Whether a horse is trying their first fun ride or simply enjoying life in the field, it’s a joy to see them flourish.

We kindly ask all adopters to keep in touch and let us know how their horse is settling. If circumstances ever change and a horse needs to be moved on, we must be informed - this ensures we can help oversee the next step and stay connected to their welfare. Our commitment to every horse doesn’t end at rehoming; their safety, happiness and long-term wellbeing always come first.

This community reflects everything SB stands for: kindness, transparency, support and putting the horses before anything else. We are proud of the family we have built and grateful for every person who continues to share their journey with us.
