About Us at SB Racehorse Rehoming
SB Racehorse Rehoming was founded in 2019 by Sharon Blake, driven by a genuine belief that every racehorse deserves thoughtful support, patience, and a true opportunity to flourish after life on the track. Having spent many years alongside her husband, racehorse trainer Michael Blake, Sharon witnessed first-hand the gap between racing and a horse’s next chapter. Too many horses finished racing without a structured pathway, quiet transition, or understanding environment to help them settle and develop new skills.
SB began with just a small number of horses who needed a gentle start to their second careers. Word grew quickly, and it wasn’t long before trainers and owners trusted SB to provide the right care and guidance for their horses after racing. Since then, we have proudly rehomed over hundreds of Thoroughbreds, building a reputation for kindness, honesty, and thoughtful matching.
From day one, the heart of SB has been simple: every horse is treated as an individual. We believe in giving horses the time they need to decompress, settle and regain confidence, rather than rushing them into new routines or expectations. Some horses need rest, others thrive with gentle structure and gradual retraining, and many simply benefit from consistent handling, understanding, and reassurance as they find their feet outside of racing. Welfare, patience and thoughtful horsemanship guide every decision we make, and our focus is always on doing right by the horse first.
Based at Staverton Farm, our peaceful setting gives horses the space to relax and learn at their own pace. With indoor and outdoor arenas, a full gallop, 40+ acres for turnout and hacking and traditional stables, the environment is built around calm, natural routines. We strongly believe in herd turnout where suitable, allowing horses to live socially, graze freely, and develop natural bonds that support their mental wellbeing. Many horses arrive needing time simply to be horses again, and our set-up is designed to allow exactly that.
SB is family-run, and the atmosphere reflects it. Sharon leads a small, experienced and deeply committed team, all with strong equestrian backgrounds and first-hand understanding of the needs of Thoroughbreds transitioning from racing. Our staff have worked closely within the racing and sport-horse world, including at Michael Blake Racing, and we are supported by kind volunteers who share our passion and spend time helping horses feel settled, relaxed and secure. Alongside daily care, our horses benefit from trusted professional support including chiropractors, physiotherapists, farriers and veterinary oversight, ensuring every horse receives complete and considered care.
Community has become a special part of SB, too. With over 34,000 online supporters following the horses’ journeys, we are incredibly proud of the encouragement and kindness shown to every horse that steps onto the yard. Many of our rehomers stay closely connected with us, continuing to share updates and remain part of the SB family long after their horse has settled into its new home. That ongoing connection matters greatly to us, because once a horse comes to SB, their story is not forgotten when they leave.
