Fireworks Night at SB: Keeping Our Horses Calm and Comfortable
Fireworks night can be magical for us, but for many horses it can be confusing, loud and a little overwhelming. This evening, like every year, we’ve been checking in on all our lovely SB horses to make sure they’re feeling safe, settled and supported.
Just like people, every horse handles fireworks differently - so we tailor their routine to what suits each one best.
For the horses staying in, we keep the barn lights on and put a calming playlist on in the background. The steady noise helps soften the sudden bangs outside and creates a more relaxed atmosphere in the stables. Some of our horses genuinely seem to enjoy their little “evening music session!”
Others are more comfortable staying out in the field, especially those who feel safer with their herd. For them, we do regular checks throughout the evening to make sure they’re settled, moving normally and not becoming stressed. A familiar environment, plenty of space and the company of their friends can make a big difference.
Fireworks can be a lot for horses, so supporting them in a way that matches their needs is something we take seriously. Whether that’s keeping them in, turning them out, adding background noise, or offering a reassuring scratch and a steady presence - it’s all about what helps that horse feel calm.
We’d love to hear from you: How do your horses handle fireworks night, and what do you do to help keep them relaxed?
Feel free to share your tips and experiences - every idea might help someone else keep their horses comfortable too.
Stay safe and give your horses an extra cuddle from us!
